From Sarrebourg to Ardèche

My stay in Sarrebourg is done and I had to get to my next destination : a horse farm in the Ardèche area of the Rhône river. This is an Air BnB property consisting of a small cottage, like a manufactured home I guess, next to a stable. The main house is also nearby. There are currently 11 horses on the property.

To get here required a train ride (since I’m not renting a car) and so I went from Sarrebourg to Strasbourg, and from there it was a TGV train to Valence. They actually hooked two TGVs together in Strasbourg to make one super long TGV.

At the TGV station in Valence, I was picked up by my Air BnB host Marjorie, who then took me to the farm where she was raised near the town of Jaillans. During the ride from Valence TGV to Jaillans she told me stories about her grandfather who became the mayor of Jaillans at the age of 21 and remained mayor for the next 45 years. She told me about her entire family who all grew up together on the farm. When we arrived I met her mom and her grandma (who is from Alsace just like our Grandma) we sat outside and had drinks, and then went into the house for dinner. After that we went to the event center outside of town and saw fireworks, and hung out at their after-party until shortly after midnight. Marjorie’s husband was working the sound system at the after-party.

Fireworks
L to R: Marjorie’s grandma, her mom, 3-year-old baby, Marjorie. I had a Heineken with peach syrup added.

Obviously this is all for the 14th of July but I guess they like to start celebrating on the 13th.
