Marseille

I got on a train in Tournon – Tain l’Hermitage and headed south to Marseille. Alexa was also in the process of flying there from Madrid. Her flight didn’t arrive until 8:00 something that night, so I got there first. I hopped on the Metro from the train station and figured out which stop was near our Air BnB. I think I made a bad choice of Air BnB in this town. I came up out of the Metro and had second thoughts. Here’s the neighborhood:

The third floor apartment we’re in is tiny. Alexa sleeps on the couch and I’m up in the loft. Despite all the graffiti everywhere it seems to be an okay place. It’s lively in the evenings anyway which is good. From what I could tell it’s the locals in the area and not tourists. Still, somebody who was clearly on drugs came up to me, while Alexa and I were having a drink, and asked for money. Probably was around Alexa’s age but looked 3x that. I pulled out €2 and gave it to her, and told her to buy some food.

We did some exploring around the old port and other interesting places. There’s an old cathedral here called Sainte-Marie-Majeure which is impressive.

There’s also a large old port area:

One day we did a boat ride to Calanques National Park. I’m not sure how it works. You can get there by bus or boat but I don’t think you can drive there. But I could be wrong. At any rate, we got the kind of tour where you don’t get off the boat so I just took pictures.

And here are some more random shots around Marseille:
